Marge Van Parys

For as long as she can remember, Marge Van Parys has always wanted to teach as she loved to share knowledge, any knowledge. An 8th grade class project was to research a future career & write a paper. Marge chose teaching College Mathematics and that's exactly what she did for 27 years (after studying at Nazareth College in Rochester, NY & St. John's University in Jamaica, NY).
Having 3 children and a full-time teaching career, she found yoga to be a great de-stressor & has studied & practiced yoga for over 35 years. Her formal studies began at the AYA (American Yoga Association) in Cleveland, OH & she continued to study other types of yoga after moving south for a warmer climate.
Having retired from teaching math, she began to teach yoga & has done so for over 20 years. Yoga exercises both sides of the body (unlike tennis which she also loves &
plays on the ladies' team at Twin Oaks Tennis Club) & builds flexibility & strength. All systems of the body & the internal organs are exercised. A flexible spine is the secret to staying young. Yoga is also one big oil can which lubricates the joints. In March 2013 her talent for the Ms Senior America Pageant was a power yoga routine performed to the instrumental version of "Time to Say Goodbye". It had to be fluid & graceful. Marge was not gifted with an ear for music like some of the other contestants, so couldn't sing or dance. But, as she says, "they can't do what I can do".
Presently, Marge is teaching at Spark of Divine, LLC Healing and Learning Center (772-559-8895) in Vero Beach & substitutes at other places. She also gives private lessons at a client's home.
